ummm ??SUMMER - 2010 - ONE OF THE BEST!
First, twenty of the Lakelands Baptist Association's churches joined together to present the patriotic musical "HOMELAND" on Sunday, June 27. It drew an "over capacity" crowd of 1,450 people with over 250 singing in the choir with a 33 piece orchestra. It was heavenly! There is already much talk about doing this again next year as everyone enjoyed it immensely! We'll have to do more than one performance, but that's a great problem to have!
Second, MUSICMANIA 2010 had a wonderful summer full of musical activities for children. Seven TERRIFIC TUESDAYS were held where the children came for singing rehearsal, handbell ringing, and more!
Third, children in grades 2-6 enjoyed a full week of musical activities at Young Musician's Camp at White Oak Conference Center. This state music camp offers the best in musical training and activities. Six children at Emerald were able to attend this year.
Fourth, the Young Musician's Choir enjoyed their third straight Music Mission Tour as they visited Licking River Baptist Church in Salyerville, KY and conducted three days of Music Day Camps there. The week was full of singing, playing and training. Plans are already in the works to return next year and run several age graded music day camps for a full five day week.
Fifth, our church enjoyed a summer of special concerts. 'HOMELAND' on June 27; bluegrass/gospel group NEW SALEM on July 25; the musical "Joseph - From the Pit to the Palace" by our own Young Musician's Choir on August 8; the children's choir from First Damascus Church presenting "Down By the Creekbank" on August 15; and the Eric Butler Project presenting a night of contemporary worship music on August 29.
In addition, our own bluegrass/gospel group, "THE SUNDAY NIGHT SPECIAL" played at Magnolia Manor on June 17; Greenwood's Festival of Discovery on July 10; Morningside Nursing home on August 10; Bayberry Nursing Home on August 17 and Hyde Park Baptist Church on August 21. Future concert are the Phoenix Festival on September 11, Roundhill Baptist Church on September 18 and Mt. Carmel UMC in Lexington in October. Your prayers are appreciated for this group as they go out and share God's love through music.
NEW MINISTRY
M.A.T. Team (Music, Arts, Theatre) will begin on Wednesday night, August 18. This group will be composed of grades 6-7-8 and will be working on converting our old Sanctuary into a Puppet Theatre. The goal is to have a working one hour show ready by early spring to present to other church children's groups, daycare groups and Sr. Adult Groups. The theatre will be named "SALVATION STATION" and will present the gospel of Christ in fun and exciting ways. Watch for further news and reports concerning "SALVATION STATION".
As fall quickly approaches, the ADULT CHOIR will soon begin work on Christmas 2010. This year we will be joining together with some other churches to present a special Christmas concert. Plans are to present the musical at each church as well as take it out into the community with other concerts. Watch for further news. If you would like to be a part of this, all you have to do is attend the next Adult Choir rehearsal at Emerald on Sunday at 5:00 PM.
